Disabled Performers
Gelligaled Bowling Club has achieved the ClubMark award from Disability Sport Wales and the club caters for performers who may have a variety of disability/ies.
The Wood'N'Hearts (Gelligaled) group (an arms length group off the main club) meets weekly at Gelligaled. The photographs below shows members of the group enjoying outdoor bowls on the all-weather carpet at Gelligaled on a sunny Wednesday afternoon in July and August 2011. From Thursday 29th September the group will meet between 12.00 noon and 2.00pm each Thursday in the Bowls Hall of the Rhondda Sports Centre in Gelligaled Park, Ystrad Rhondda
The building adjacent to the green is the Rhondda Sports Centre where the group will meet and play on the indoor bowling green during the winter period each Thursday
between 12.00noon and 2.00pm.
In addition to the Wood'N'Hearts Group a separate group
Rhondda Boccia for all interested in playing the sport of Boccia will be set up commencing on Monday 6th February- 5.30 to 6.30 pm- with play taking place in the Main Hall of the bowlingpavilion.
The four Mondays in February will be regarded as 'taster' sessions and will be free to everyone attending. These sessions are open to both disabled and non-disabled persons.
Boccia (pronounced BOT-CHA) is a paralympic sport which almost anyone can learn to play. More information about this sport can be found by
