Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who took part including the markers.
During the morning and during the luncheon period before the finals a fund raising event
was held in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care (World's Biggest Coffee Morning).
This event raised a total of £88 for Macmillan Cancer Care and grateful thanks is
extended to all who donated and helped during the day.

Vater Shield Competition 2011
Gelligaled achieved success in winning the three knock-out matches to reach
for the first time the Final of the Vater Shield Competition.
The final, played at the Mountain Ash BC green saw Gelligaled playing against
Harlequins Bowls Club and although Harlequins clearly won the match the friendly spirit of the sport was evident throughout.
Congratulations to Harlequins and Gelligaled look forward to playing in this competition
next year.

Pengelli Ladies Fixture 16th August 2011
Due to the weather conditions during the evening of 15th/16th August
and the state of the Pengelli Park green this friendly fixture was transferred
and played at Gelligaled. Ladies and gentlemen were mixed into blue and red teams
and whilst some cards showed that the blue team were marginally ahead of the red team
at the completion of 18 ends the best result was a draw.
All participants thoroughly enjoyed a fun afternoon of bowls and the ladies provided an
excellent high tea at the conclusion of the match.

W D JonesTrophy Competition 2010
Gelligaled achieved a comfortable win in the Semi Final of the WD Jones Trophy Competition
by 11 shots on Tuesday 3rd August against Ystradfechan Bowls Club.
The final between Gelligaled and Ely Valley will be played on Sunday 15th August
at the Gelli Park green (Home green of RBBA Vice-Chairman 2010 - Mr Graham Parfitt).

Cardiff & District MBA Tournaments 2010
Gelligaled players Dewi Hughes and John Fyfe secured a place in the Final
of the Pairs competition with a win over Caerphilly Town's David and Chris
Doidge.
Dewi and John played in the final against Dennis Tyner and John Faux of the
St Mellons Bowling Club at the St Mellons green on Sunday 5th September and
after an exciting, hard but very friendly game lasting over 3 hours and 21 ends
and 2 dead ends they finished as runners up.

Cynon Valley Bowling League Tournaments 2010
Congratulations to Gelligaled player David Hopkins on winning the
Cynon Valley Bowls League's Singles Competition played at
Hirwaun Bowling Club on Sunday 25th July 2010.

Wood 'n' Hearts Group
and Bowls for Disabled persons at Gelligaled
February 25th 2010 - Gelligaled's Vice-Chairman Ron Williams and Margaret Williams in Cardiff with former athlete Colin Jackson at an event marking the Welsh leg of the National Lottery's Britain has Balls tour which was promoting how the National Lottery has helped groups. The Gelligaled Wood'n'Hearts Group has received two grants and has purchased bowls and equipment to enable disabled persons, including cardiac and stroke patients, to enjoy the game of bowls.
It is interesting to note that Colin himself played bowls (short mat) as a youngster.
He looks quite comfortable now with the bowls in his hands (one at a time though please)
and may well take up the sport again.
We look forward to welcoming Colin and any one else to join us on the outdoor carpet at Gelligaled.
Although we attempt to be fully inclusive with disabled bowlers part of the main team sessions specifically for disabled bowlers will be each Wednesday afternoon between 1.00 and 3.00 pm.

News at end of Summer Season 2010
Gelligaled Bowling Club completed the Summer season 2010 gaining promotion to
Division 1 of Mid Glamorgan CBA League.
The club also maintained their position in the Rhondda BBA & Cynon Valley Leagues
1st Divisions and in Division 4 of the Cardiff and District Municipal League
Gelligaled will now play in the following Leagues and Competitions for 2011 season:-
Mid Glamorgan CBA League Division 1 (8 games)
Rhondda BBA Thursday evening League Division 1 (9 games)
Cynon Valley Bowling League Division 1 (10 games)
Rhondda BBA Monday afternoon 2 Rink League (15 games)
Cardiff and District MBA League Division 4 (10 games)
WBA Carruthers Shield Competition (4 games within the section)
